Why did I start Q2 Earplugs?
“If I could hop in the Back to the Future DeLorean, the first thing I would do is go back in time and make myself put in earplugs before every concert.”
- Quinn Jones, Founder of Q2 Earplugs
Quinn’s Story
I’ve been going to concerts since the 1900s…well technically only the 1990s but I wanted to sound cool. Living in Los Angeles has given me the opportunity to attend countless concerts and festivals. I was regularly wearing earplugs to a majority of shows I was going to, but one spontaneous show without earplugs was the straw that broke the camel’s back and now I unfortunately have relentless ringing in my right ear (unilateral tinnitus).
After getting tinnitus, I searched high and low for remedies, but the hard truth is that the only real solution is prevention. Learning from my own mistakes, I want to encourage all concert goers to wear ear protection to all of the shows they attend.
My concern around the current earplug market is that companies are inflating the price to a point where the product is no longer desirable to the average person, which is why I’m offering a similar product to top competitors at a fraction of the price. Beyond that, I want to focus on spreading awareness about tinnitus and the importance of wearing hearing protection to prevent it. Q2 Earplugs will operate as a non-profit, with 100% of proceeds going towards researching potential tinnitus cures and spreading awareness for tinnitus prevention.
What is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is a condition characterized by a persistent ringing, buzzing, or hissing sound in the ears with no external source. It occurs when the delicate hair cells in the inner ear become damaged, sending false sound signals to the brain. One of the leading causes is prolonged exposure to loud noise, particularly concerts and live music events, where sound levels can reach dangerously high decibels. The damage is often permanent and cumulative.
