Tips for Tinnitus Prevention & Best Practices for Attending Concerts

  • Keep your earplugs with you - on your keychain or in the wallet/purse that you always have with you

  • Put your earplugs in - they don’t work if you don’t use them

  • Step away regularly — take 5–10 minute breaks from loud environments to give your ears a rest

  • Keep distance — stand further from speakers at concerts and events

  • Lower headphone volume — follow the 60/60 rule: no more than 60% volume for 60 minutes at a time

  • Limit exposure time — the louder the environment, the shorter your safe listening window

  • Watch out for warning signs — muffled hearing or ringing after an event means your ears need recovery time

  • Let your ears recover — after loud exposure, give yourself quiet time to decompress
